Missing Boom Vang part

I have a metal fitting on my boom which is intended to receive the boom end of the vang. However, the vang rope and pullys don't have the correct end connection for this bracket. It is NOT a bail. It is a formed sheet metal with a key hole shaped slot in it. Neither end of the vang blocks have the correct fitting for this slot. I have searched the sail hardware catalogs I have and don't see a fitting that looks right. I will add a picture of the slot on the boom. I need to know what the correct fitting looks like and where a replacement might be obtained. Thanks, Dave

Boom Vang Key

I think what you are looking for is called a Boom Vang Key. One manufacturer is RWO and their part # is R4860. I pasted in a link to Annapolis Performance Sailing, but if that doesn't work go to www.apsltd.com and click sub-heading "hardware", then "Boom/mast bails, straps and tangs. " and scroll down. Not the easiest website to use but they have a large selection.....

Boom Vang

Here is what it looks like. It's on the end of a 1/8 stainless steel wire that is connected to the Boom Vang. This standard rigging ball found at Westmarine.com here is the link. The part number is MS 664-C4.

Makes for a Quick Disconnect

The SS Wire with Ball end makes for a very quick disconnect if you want to drop your vang off the boom. Rudy at D&R Marine makes them up, also.

laser key

I have the idnetical fitting on my DS II boom. I use a Laser boom vang key from my chandler to fit in there. The laser is a hair oversize, so you will have to take adremmel tool or file to shave the sides of the circle tap that fit into the slot. They are easy to fit to your existing vang with a shackle. Check a Laser parts catalog if you find nothing else to work.

Another problem solved

I am sure from the info you all provided I can get the part I need in the next few months. I will be in Detroit in a few weeks. There are a couple of shops there with will likely have what I need - NOW THAT I KNOW WHAT TO ASK FOR. Thanks Dave
