Minney's Yacht Surplus, Costa Mesa, CA has Chromed Lewmar 30 Self Tailing winches for $495. They are the Ocean Series winches. Sounds too good to be true (and therefore I'm cautious). Does anyone have experience with Minney's and their winches?

You'd have a hard time finding anyone to disrespect Minney's. If you have any questions about the product, ask to talk to Ernie Minney himself, or one of their staff. The will tell you the truth about the winches.

Do they sell online? I looked at the website and didn't find any winches.

Thank you. I did see that but that blog is dated July 2013. I figured those are long gone.

I good friend and good sailor bought 2 and is convinced they are the real deal. I believe their return policy is "no likey no takee", but check to be sure. Minney's has a good rep out here.

Having first heard about and considered these ST winches on Minney's site at least a year ago (see* below), I am really surprised that at the price I saw back then that they still have some of them them in stock.

Look on eBay: >> Sellers often are asking (expecting) more for second hand 20+ year old no longer manufactured ST winches recovered from a hurricane wrecked boat than Minney's price for a new Lewmar.

I elected not to buy because my current 34 year old OEM ST winch still functions perfectly. And just didn't make sense just to get a new one only for appearance sake. (Simile: -- After 35 years, I love my wife and respect her now even more than when we were both much newer. No way could I possibly swap out ... notwithstanding that a newer model would be quick to observe that my date-of-birth statistic doesn't equate to the expectation of much future duty.)

Reverting back again to the topic of a ST sailboat winch, also I would have had to drill a different mounting hole pattern on my cabin top. Another reason I passed on Minney's very good offer.

* I was interested maybe to purchase only because my perfectly functioning (on the inside) OEM Barient chrome-plated-over-bronze 19ST cabin-top winch looked visually terrible (on the outside) after 35 years on the boat.
