Can anyone suggest the minimum horse power I can use for a Hunter 25' for ocean sailing. And what would the maximun H.P. be that I would need to move against strong currents such as the Cape Cod Canal. Any expertise in this area would be appreciated. Thanks, M.C. mcrociati@aol.com

This should do the trick

Take a look at a Vetus M2.D5 4 stroke/2 cyl. in line diesel Mitsubishi (13 hp) for pricing and a color catalog call 1-800-786-7639. I bought one in a 16 horse power for my Hunter 27 and could not be happier. (The price was right too.)

Minimum Horsepower

Are we talking Outboard? The H270 has an inboard diesel as an option but I think all H25s use outboards. (Could be wrong here) Seems to me you ought to be talking about Maximum HP. You can only put so much torque on the transom of a Hunter 25. For the 25 foot Hunter I think the company recommends a max of 10 hp although some are using 15 Hp. I've been told the 15 us usually just a sooped up version of the 10 HP

Inboard

Thanks for your reply, I need all the get-up-to-speed info. I can get. My new-used Hunter has an inboard Yanmar but I don't believe it works (boat won't arrive in my yard for two more weeks). I wonder what the chances are that an old inboard of this ilk and type could come back to life! Signed, advanced sailor (day sailors) but beginner cruiser. Mark Crociati
