Here we go... mini cruise to Dana Point. Should take between 4 to 6 hours of leisurely sailing. Forecast for 4/30 is winds S 10~15 with gust up to 20. Looks like a broad reach all the way. Whoot.

Returning Sunday fighting winds. Oh well. Wish I could have it both ways. LOL

Next month, mini cruise to San Diego Bay. Will be visiting Silver Gate Yacht Club. That should be fun, as this trip should be fun.

See ya when I get back!

We'll be out sailing offshore Dana Point Saturday. Maybe we'll see you. Bristol 29.9 teak trim green canvas.

Will you be in the west anchorage behind the point later?

Will be at the guess slips on the West end. Occupying slip #1. What is your boat name? I'll give you a shout on VHF, maybe 22A.

Nice little single handed sailing this weekend. Took 7 hours up to Dana Point on a beam reach the entire way (until 4 nm out and the wind shifted). Roughly 3.5 knots average. The return trip took close to 10 hours of tacking and beating. Three tacks exactly and close hauled the rest of the way. Went 5nm out did first tack. Did second tack toward destination but that put me below the lay line. After 2nm, tacked again and went 4.5nm from second and that put me above the lay line to Oceanside Harbor. Unfortunately that cost me an addition 12nm of sailing (hence the three additional hours).

On the return hit as high as 5.6 knots but mostly stayed in the high 4 knot range. Seas were rough with swells 4-6 feet and countering swells from the south and west. Whitecaps shortly after noon on the way up. Autopilot did most of the driving while I made small adjustment trim to the sails. Over all I was extremely pleased that I could sail all day both days.

Brian, I'm curious why you would hail another boat on 22A?? I thought that channel was reserved for USCG traffic.

Yeah. Never used it anyway. Shows you how much I pay attention to VHF channels. Opps... better study up on those. LOL

Friends did a return on a J boat from Ensenada. Second day was the same as your trip to Dana. They reported a great sail.
