Mine draft is bigger than yours

I am totally perplexed. I have a 310 Catalina hull # 101, fin keel, with a draft of 6'6"! The specs state the draft is 5'9" or in some instances 6'. Does any one have an idea why this boat has such a deep draft? Did Catalina make special order drafts? Unfortunately this boat has had two previous owners and I cannot get in touch with either one. Thanks for any suggestions.

From what I have been told by the factory, the early (I find hull #101 to be rather late for an early model) boats shared keels with another boat model. I found this when I took delivery of me 2001 C-310 #52. I have the wing keel which showed a draft of 4'-4" perfect for the shallow area I needed to get into. After some bottom bumping and a check at the factory I was told that in fact my draft is 4'-10" (add 1/2 foot) Without checking for sure you can not be positive, but my guess is that is what you are seeing a keel from another model boat. Write Catalina, they will respond in a day with all the build specifications for your boat given the hull number.

This is the revised spec from the early Manual - sorry it does not help you much as it still shows 5'-9" and 4,000#

This will probably confuse the situation, but I have a 2006 C309 fin keel and we share the same hull as the C310 and the specs show the draft at 6' 3" and 4000#. The specs for the C309, C310 and C320 according to the Catalina web site were the same in 2006. Bob

Just checked the specs in my manual (Rev. 7/25/00) - Hull No. 149. Draft is shown as 5'9". It was sold to me as 6'. Shall try and measure next week when it is being slipped. Maybe I should claim 3" worth of keel back from the broker.

#83 is 4'10" sold as 4'4" really no big deal, but it is a source of confusion.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will contact the factory and try to obtain my exact specs.

I have the same issue with #52 sold as 4'-4" and measured (and factory verified) at 4'-10". Now the post might be "mine is bigger", but I can tell you that some times I wish I did not have that extra 6", it does make a deal.

With the weight lower we should be more stable and be able to sail with less heal with the same amount of wind, thus faster.

While putting the winter cover on my boat this week I measured my draft. To my surprise it is 4' 10" also. 2001, Haul 104. Would never had known if not for this thread and I sail on an inland lake where the water depth can get pretty thin. Thanks! Gary
