Im changing out all my running rigging for my 1984 Catalina 30'. The spec calls for a 3/8" halyard but it seems to thin. I'm thinking a 7/16" since it still should fitt through the deck sheave. What halyard sizes are you using?

Hi Scott: I redid my running rigging on my 1996 C30 last year and used 3/8" New England Ropes Sta-set X and it works just fine. The breaking strength is 5500Lbs. Should be no trouble, and you don't have to worry about fit. Fair Winds Dave S/V Westwind

3/8"

I replaced mine last year, 87' 30 TR. I did the same as Dave, 3/8 Sta-Set-X. No problems.

Don't oversize your halyards

I just recently replaced 7/16 halyards with 3/8 on my Catalina 30. I found the larger size caused many problems with the sheaves at the foot and top of the mast. My recomnendation is to stay with the 3/8" line. Good sailing.
