Mike: Here is a picture of the access port on my mast from our 1985 H'31 #501. It came from the plant with this access. I would have no idea if it would weaken the mast if you added this.

Using Access port

Steve: Thanks for the picture! I notice that you don't use the access port for wiring. What are your thoughts on making the connections inside the cabin under the starboard foreward settee? Are you still making the connections at the mast step collar?

Access Port!

Mike: I do not know. The yard did the repairs on the compression post. I ASSUME (we know what that means) that the wire connections are inside the mast above deck. This would sure make the connect/disconnect a lot easier. Just pull a wad of wire out and unplug. I'll know more about this in the next couple of months when I wire the Nexus Instruments this spring.

bottom painting and prep

Not that it is particular to the 23, but I am considering undertaking the project of painting the bottom of my boat. Any suggestions on preparation would be appreciated. I noticed that the yard that did the work last year obviously did not scrape a lot of the old peeling paint off. last years paint just fell off in certain places. What is the best method of removing the peeling paint. What can be done to avoid this from happening again? Is there a special ablative paint recommeded for the NJ area? Thanks Mike O SV "Sea-Dation" 1987 H-23 PS I guess I screwed up, did not want to post this as a response to this article, got confused with the Mike O
