Microwave

Does anyone have any experience with the microwave in the Current 2005 Hunter 33. Mine is almost worthless since it cannot adequately make microwave popcorn, It either leaves a large amount of unpoped corn or if left on too long leaves it dry and still unpoped. It seems to be low power which seems at 550 watts a unit you cannot buy at WalMart for $39. Has anyone experienced this problem and can anything be done about it. Hunter is no help. Could the opening be cut out to accept a larger unit, since the Hunter model size cannot be found anywhere. Or has anyone replaced the unit with something like a convection oven which at least would be more usefull and would fit in the present hole.

Try this

I replaced that worthless piece of junk with a Sharp Microwave/Convection Oven/Toaster Oven. I had to make the opening about an inch and 1/2 taller. The width was already perfect. Now I get popcorn and occasionally even cookies on the boat. I made teak trim boards around the oven and it looks a lot better than that cheap black plactic thing. My oven came from Lowes. They had them at Wal-Mart too.

Costco

Magic Chef. Turn table. 900 watts. Great Pop Corn. 100 amps on the inverter. $25.00 on close out with a added manager brother-in-law discount. Where does Hunter find such garbage in this day and age. They are going to extraordinary lengths to find stuff so cheap that their vendor must be paying THEM! And all it does is piss-off their customers.

Replace it

Last kiddo moving in to her own apartment and I'm giving her my little Hunter microwave. We too find that even on shore power we can't pop popcorn and it takes almost 3 minutes to heat up a cup of water for tea!!! Micro/convection/toaster over sounds like the way to go.

H33 Specific

I didn't spell it out in my previous post, but my microwave replacement was on a 2005 H33. I didn't give my old(brand new) to anyone. I put it in the dumpster!!!!!!

Removing old microwave

Larry, How did you get to the electrical plug of the microwave to remove it. It looks like I will have to remove some bulkheads or drill a access hole to remove the plug.

Better info

Access to the plug is below the small white floor panel at the foreward end of the port lazarette. Here is a better picture that shows the trim pieces I made to fill the gaps. Notice that the bottom board has to fill a larger gap. I had to go thru the lazarette and remove the top board of the box that holds the factory microwave in order to allow for the extra height of the Sharp unit.
