Naturally, it depends on how you are going to use your boat. When cruising, like last week, we probably eat half our meals aboard. The microwave is great for warming up a cup of coffee/tea, baking potatoes, and obviously lots of other foods that you might otherwise need to cook in the oven. We try to avoid running the oven for an hour and putting all that heat in the cabin. Our primary cooking method is the BBQ grill on the stern rail. But, as others have mentioned, the microwave is also great for reheating leftovers. We've mostly used it with the generator, but have, on occasion, used it on the inverter when we are getting peak solar input don't harbor doesn't drag the batteri s down too much. I would definitely vote for having one onboard if you have the space and power to accommodate it.

Do you wear them when you enter the microwave or just every day?
Knew a guy in the navy who swore he lined his underwear with foil when we had to tune the radar antennae on the P2 and P3 planes.

P3 planes.
Now there is Faraday Cage! The P3's electronics were behind a FC. Electronic warfare.
Last note...
You must Ground the Cage to send applied external energy away.
So...
I haven't looked on my boat, where the green ground wire goes or what happens when I throw the Microwave AC breaker. It must be grounded to keep microwaves from parboiling my eye when I peek in to see supper cooking.
Jim...

Very funny James. Listening to Ken you can get right up to the window of the unit and watch it go round and round.
Not me. I don't need bionic cooked eyeball. I wait till it goes ding. Then what ever happened is a surprise.
Spent my navy career servicing the electronics on a the P2's operating out of NAS Patuxent River.

We use our's quite a bit. We use Folgers coffee in the tea bag style and it works really good for that. Great for warm ups and for thawing out frozen chile and soups pre-made while cruising. Wouldn't be without it.
