Meals and leftovers especially when we're moving. Late night hot chocolate, day old coffee, or soup done in a minute. Good for breakfast grits and bacon. Goes well with some of the meals in a pouch. Faraday cage for the cell phones.

They sure do. Wondered myself but metal screws fill metal and the shell itself must have seams. Maybe someone out there could educate us

Some time back we read some safety facts for lightning storms. Putting your electronics in the oven or microwave was suggested. I figured if the microwaves don't get out when cooking, then they can't get in when it's storming. Don't leave your stuff in there if you start cooking. I'll try a search to see if I can find a few sources. There must be a MIT professor that follows my posts. :D

If your phone is inside a Faraday Cage (your microwave oven), NO SIGNAL and no annoying calls or being tracked while sailing. So put it in your Microwave but don't forget and turn the Oven on!:yikes:

We have a genset for an OEM microwave. We now rarely use our propane stove. We make pre-made frozen meals or our Favorite frozen diet meals for a quick and easy meal after a long day sailing. We still use our grill and oven, but mainly for a special meal or guests.
Thanks for the Tip on storage. I will put our 4 cup coffee maker there now.

our 1000 W microwave makes a great faraday cage for storing our sensitive electronics when there are huge thunder / lightning storms around. using it thus also reminds me to un plug the expensive electronic stuff so a lightning strike doesn't wipe out $$$ of equipment. (BTW: sine wave inverters are necessary for sensitive computers and the like but not all the necessary for microwaves.)

Our 2007 H-36 came stock with Microwave and we use it when cruising a lot and makes
things easy for sure but we have 4-6 volt batteries and inverter/charger and Gen and solar.
We cruise 2 -3 week trips and many weekend trips and so the microwave comes in very handy and my wife really likes when heating up food in the hot weather for sure, because we anchor out most times.

All U Get, don't believe Woodster.:badbad:
He sent me a picture of his breakfast on his boat, it was big time delicious. I still owe him ONE as I drank my Atkins shake after the gale we had last year.
Jim...

PS: Both kloudie1 and woodster eat Frog Legs! Kermit you just never know who your friends are. They laughed and said they "saved" the little legless frogs "on crutches" from bumping their froggie butts as they "crutch" jump.

Looks secure. Do the metal braces have screws into the oven sides? I've always been concerned with puncturing the metal shell of the oven. I understand that is what keeps the microwave radiation inside the box
If the holes are plugged with fasteners no radiation can escape. The diameter of a drilled hole would need to be pretty large (2 inches would be about 1/2 wave at 2.9GHZ) anyway to allow energy out of the box. If you know the frequency the oven you can calculate the wavelength of the energy and figure out how big of a hole it needs to radiate out. The concern would be if long screws hit anything inside that they shouldn't. Keep fasteners as short as practical.

A Faraday shield is simply shielding accomplished by encapsulating with conductive material. It blocks electrical energy.
It's used in many places from shielding a whole building to small electronics.

Many faraday cages are made with copper screening. The thing that matters is whether the openings in the cage are electrically small with respect to the wavelength of the highest frequencies you want to keep out.

Thanks Ken. I suspected the issue was size. It usually is. The length of the screw in the side of an oven is particularly a concern. I would limit the fastener to just beyond metal thickness and try to stabilize the oven by bracing the outside frame. I'm thinking if I keep it, I'll need to build a cabinet to hold it. Additionally, there is a glass rotating plate inside the oven that will need to be secured.
Man. It is always something.

My B411 delivered with a built-in microwave. Several chef-types suggested that I remove it in the interest of more storage, but I find it very useful when cooking meals because I can move many items to microwave cooking - vegetables, sauces, heating all-ready cooked meats, and cook them quickly. It did power off of an inverter, but now we use a genset to power it, and the AC, while dinner is prepared and served.
