My boat has Micron 66 on the bottom. I hope it holds up in the warm Florida water this summer. If anyone has this paint, how did it do? If you sailed once a week or if you let the boat sit a month. I had two barnicles on my outboard rudder so I toke it off and got them off. Do you just go after the barnacles. Cleaning the bottom would take off too much paint I would think. It said it is self cleaning. Any comments on this would help. Thanks

Micron CSC

Kris, Put on Micron CSC 18 months ago and will be hauling in early May. This stuff is incredible. The hull has a little slime but nothing growing. Maybe the green people should not be reading this. The price here in Canada is scary at $200 per gallon. Need 2 gallons. Ho hum..... just a boat.... Pete

I e-mailed Interlux yesterday

Interlux e-mailed me back about my question of maintenance. They said it should be maintenance free. If I had a barnacle to try to remove very carefully without taking to paint off. I had my bottom painted last fall and have not touched it other than that. Interlux has a nice web site and e-mailed me back pretty fast. Seem to be a good company. Kris

Most boaters here in Singapore uses ...

Micron Extra or the newer Micron 66. The Extra was impressive but the 66 much better. My boating friend who uses the Extra (like me) were duly impressed with another friend boats with 66 that we all starting to switch to that for our next haulout. Sg water is very rich in biolife.

Bottom Paint

I am new to boating, hope to buy a sailboat and spend winters onit in Fl, I am learning that you have to put some kind of special bottom paint to keep stuff off the bottom. I also take it a New Mac doesnt come with any kind of bottom paint and you have to add it before putting it in the water?

Paint Evolution

I keep my boat in the Florida Keys. I started with Micron CSC and it failed to work so terribly that Interlux sent a rep down to photograph the results. I then went to Petit Trinidad, which worked relatively well. But it is a hard paint with all of the hassles involved in that paint type. I now use Micron 66, which is "self-polishing" and not technically an ablative paint. It has done the best job of any of these bottom paints BY FAR. If anything soft starts to grow at the waterline if the boat sits for too long, it sponges right off. After 18 months of use, nothing has ever grown on the bottom below the waterline. In the Keys, that is almost a miracle.
