Hey
When you go to the Annapolis Show and you need supplies you go to Fawcetts as they have real good show specials

When you go to the Miami show where is the counterpart to a Fawcetts, who has good show specials?
Allready can't wait untill Miami

Also more importantly what is the counterpart to a Pusser's Painkiller
Thanks
Gary

Most would say the drink of Miami is Mojito but for sailors I'd go for a "Papa Doble" - a super strong Daquiri invented by Ernest Hemmingway with no sugar and beaten in a blender until the foam is like - quoting Hemmingway himself "like the sea where the wave falls away from the bow of a ship when she is doing thirty knots."

2 oz white rum
1 oz fresh lime juice
½ oz fresh grapefruit juice
¼ oz maraschino liqueur (not juice from a cherry jar)
1½ to 2 cups shaved ice
Combine in a blender and frappe until the drink is foaming. Serve in a large cocktail glass, champagne saucer, or goblet.

Be sure to offer a toast to Hemminway's boat "The Pilar" which is still in Cuba.

Everything at the miami boat show is for sale. It's all there at the convention center. If you go by boat and stay at Dinner Key you can walk a long way to Crook and somebody's

Think West Marine. I know of nothing like Fawcetts in Miami (Although Fawcetts isn't like Fawcetts since it moved). A really fun place an hour up the road in Ft. Lauderdale is Sailorman. Great used stuff:

http://www.sailorman.com/

And the Miami show is not Annapolis. Power out numbers sail by about 100 to 1. Ten years ago there were almost as many sailboats as in Annapolis. Now, you can see the handful in half a day. There are a good number of cats. The sailboats are tucked away (since the bridge is too low for any sailboat over about 45 feet long to get to the main show docks).

The main exhibit hall is big and has lots of gear as well as 197,000 brands of 22ft fishing boats. It's a half hour bus ride from docks. But even here there probably are 100 booths selling fishing lures for each one selling sailboat stuff.

The Miami show has been shrinking. The bigger show by far is the "Miami Beach Yacht and Brokerage" show at the same time. They run shuttle buses. It's run by a different company. This is about five miles (really!) of huge powerboats. Maybe one sailboat. I find it fun to go to see things like the picture:

Fortunately, powerboat guys like to drink too.

the miami show is split, sailboats at the miami bayside market place (in water), and the power boats on miami beach marina, and all the vendors at the miami beach convention center

* at least thats the way it was last time I went.

Sailboat show is small, in comparison to the powerboats. and the big yacht show is in ft lauderdale in the fall (just left).

For deals, you want to go to fort lauderdale. Sailorman, BOW, and mcdonalds hardware.

Ft laud is better since its closer to the water, and the warehouses near 'lesters diner' support the airport and the marine industry.

however, there are some good sources for fishing gear 'capt harry's and el captain'

but in general, ft lauderdale is your better choice for supplies.

-and be careful walking around biscayne blvd... don't try to save 20 bucks on parking 5 blocks west... not very safe.

*for teak, shell lumber in coconut grove. but causeway lumber in FLL has better selection.

Hey, maybe we should try for another gathering of SBO forumites similar to what we did in Annapolis? If I make it to the show I am pretty sure at some point you will find me at Alabama Jack's on Card Sound Road.
