gettinthere
We drove out to marine stadium to have a look
First didn't know you needed a sunpass to cross the McCarther cost me a 30 dollar fee on the car rental vs1.75 actual cost
Place looks like post war Bosnia They say proudly they are going to spend 16mil to fix up going to have to be smart to make that work
Only one resturant at the marina, looks kewl, no hotels until Key Bisq

Hope they continue shuttle bus service from the hotels

If the place turns out like the promo stuff says it will could be nice
-a few points:

marine stadium is on virginia key, (and connects to Key Biscayne), not miami beach/mcarthur.

The causeway to get to key biscayne is Rickenbacker. and it is 2 lanes. (some places it has 3 lanes). I think the toll is 1.50 but not positive. (& They do take cash! )

There are a few places to eat, but not much in walking distance, since the stadium has been closed since andrew (92). there is a marina to the west (the Hut) with food beers and music. tikibar type. rusty pelican is decent, and another place ( whiskey joes ) next to it. beyond that, you have key biscayne's hotels and restaurants.

if they run events at the stadium, you can bet traffic will be a problem. (it always has been, tennis, golf, concerts, boat races, or just a holiday weekend) mostly leaving.

and it is a disaster, mostly used by skateboarders and homeless today.

in its day is was a great venue. concerts, boat races, etc. I'd like to see something done with the property...

Mr Bill

We absoulutely love Lauderdale our first stop every year is the 15th street fisheries the place is legendary
Spent too much money on marina mile but got good deals
Your absolultely right its the rickenbacker but no gate open to pay cash it was all sunpass hence the 30 dollar charge on the rental
correct on the skateboarders dont forget all the dumpsters they were all over

Soo I'm hopeful but doubtful

Search: Miami marine stadium lawsuit
Follow the links from the main story and it looks like rough sailing ahead for the new proposed location

in miami, all things are possible. ($$$)
(fwiw, there were ~300 dead voters last election, on absentee ballots...)

I wouldn't think the town of key biscayne has any chance of stopping this, if the real power wants to do it... I don't see how they can save that cement structure. but knocking it down and rebuilding is very possible.

(marine stadium is on virginal key, and AFAIK owned by the city of miami, but residents of KB have to travel thru VK to get home...

-in other news we're running a grand prix next month downtown. -right next to bayside... (electric F1 cars)

Bill
Makes you wonder how a private plan to put 80mill into this could be rejected vs.a gov plan using taxpayer dollars??????
Guess gov is the big player here!!!!!
