I would NOT walk that 4 blocks at night. I would take a cab or metro mover... and don't get lost. (or go west from biscayne blvd)...
& don't look like a tourist...

After spending cash on the golden mile our first evening is going to be at the 17th street fisheries
Can't wait to see water instead of that ice stuff

A friend went to 17th street and had a great meal. its a little pricy, but a great view.
-you might want to call and see what time they feed the tarpon.
huge tarpon school under the fuel dock, and are fed with kitchen scraps (around 4 or5 I think)
or you can buy some bait and feed them yourself. there is fuel dock and bait in front of the restaurant.
weather will be in the mid 70's this weekend. (jan is always cool)
IF you have time to kill I would recommend taking the 'downtowner's' water taxi. is smaller than the county water taxi.
the downtowner is casual food/bar on the new river at andrews ave. - ribs are excellent.
the county water taxi is more of a bus, hold around 50 passengers, but still a good way to see FLL.

ps: what is the golden mile?
(las olas? or did you mean galt ocean mile a condo cannon near oakland park) -Las Olas is a great place to walk, eat, drink, and shop...
Golden mile was explained to me as state hwy 84 in the sailorman area because of all the marine suppliers located there

its officially called MARINA Mile. even has a exit sign...
from US1 west on State road 84, you have a number of shops, sailorman, BOW, WEST, mcdonalds (ace) hard ware, (and all the warehouses that support the port and airport behind 'Lester's diner').
-on the west side of I95, is what is normally called Marina Mile.
That's were most of the wet and dry ship yards are, and yacht haven.
(think big 100'+ crewed yachts. but they will take the ~30' too. )

Great kayak or dink run
That entire stretch from Ft Lauderdale along the New River can be explored either in your boat (there are huge yachts well west of I-95) or a kayak or dink. You may well see manatees. You'll see literally hundreds of interesting boats (we've spotted "Highlander" - Malcomb Forbes and "Green Guitar" - Eric Clapton. Huge homes.
That entire stretch from Ft Lauderdale along the New River can be explored either in your boat (there are huge yachts well west of I-95) or a kayak or dink. You may well see manatees. You'll see literally hundreds of interesting boats (we've spotted "Highlander" - Malcomb Forbes and "Green Guitar" - Eric Clapton. Huge homes.
You get glimpses from I-595. But if you go to "Riverwalk" or the IMAX/Science Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts area you can grab a bench and watch the aquatic world go by. And at night nearby that same area is a (safe) hopping bar scene.
Just to clarify...this thread was about the Miami boat show and the latest discussion is about Ft Lauderdale.
We spent a week on the new river in lauderdale. Watching the big yachts get towed by bkw and stern was entertaining. Some beautiful stuff. Running the new river was a real treat. 5 draw bridges in about 3 miles. Unlike most bridges that favor cars these favored boats. They wernt kidding with "Bring it on capt"

Made it in yesterday couldn't believe the weather all around
Talked to many near the end of the show day and it is noticable how many folks didn't make it down because of the weather
Planning to talk to the Jabsco pump folks tomorrow and will find out when more smart plugs will be available

So remember last week folks were complaining about the Jabsco vary flo pump premature failure problem?
Well,talked to the top guy from Jabsco today and he said if anyone has this problem he would make good on it

He also said the new version has corrected this issue and should be no more

Thanks for the update Gary. Do you happen to know what the model number is for the corrected version? As I mentioned many 355 owners have had multiple failures and would be interested to know if their replacement pumps are this newer version. Those under factory warranty are now receiving Shur Flo Aqua King II's....
