Hi all I am looking for some planning charts for the west coast from California to Panama. Now that we can download the NOAA BSB and other charts for free, I was hoping for something similar for Mexico. Does anyone know where there no-charge downloadable charts for Mexico, or will I have to purchase them? I suspect "purchase" is the only way, but it would be nice to find something online. Don't know where to get them, but
be careful of the data (datum?). My friend there says his charts are frequently off by quite a distance - miles sometimes. You need to get the GPS data to correlate with the charts you are using. I am no expert on this issue - just know enough to be cautious.

Electronic Charts and/or Chart Book?
I purchased a set on e-bay (electronic). They are world-wide. They are seven years old, but should suffice for what you want. Also, there is a chart book available with coastal charts Mexico-Panama. I recall it was about $150. I got it at West Marine four years ago. I also had a full set of paper charts I sold to Minney's Marine in Newport Beach CA.
