I'm hoping for good weather this Saturday night for the annual Persieds meteor shower. A question for all you mid-Chesapeake sailors: How far out from Baltimore do I need to sail to find a good dark-sky location to watch 'em?

The light scatter from Balm'r, Annapolis and their suburbs, can reach all the way to the Bay. Id suggest that you go to at least Hart-Miller Is. or one of the creeks on the Magothy River close to the bay ... or better yet just about any place on the Eastern Shore -- Worton or Still Pond are usually quite dark for sky viewing.
The radiant for the Perseid's is in the NE sky so anyplace you can position yourself with the blaze of the western shore and the crescent moon at your back will be an advantage.

Current weather predictions are for mostly cloudy on Sat night .... bummer!!!

Meteor Showers...

Two years ago doing the overnight Governor's Cup from Annapolis to St. Mary's, we were treated to sporatic "shooting stars" from below West River to Pt. Lookout (except for a few miles on either side of the Cove Point gas dock).

On the upper Bay, to add to Rich H's spots, possibly the outer Bodkin Creek, and anywhere on the outer Sassafras or off Aberdean would probably also work.
