On our Merriman pedestal there is a hole on either side of the plate that holds the pedestal guard. The hole is (roughly)2" in diameter. Does anyone know what these are for? We've discovered our own personal favorite- that a styrofoam cup with cocktail sauce fits nicely in it. I'm not convinced that Merriman planned on that though. Any ideas? Thanks! Dave

WOW!

Endless Summer has a Merriman and we don't have the cocktail souce holes. Sounds like a great idea! Can you post a picture on HOW? I'd like to see it. Maybe your boat was owned by a serious racer and he/she was trying to reduce the weight of the boat. Good luck, Roger and Susie Mummah

Instrument Pod attachment?

... My cast metal pods, port and stbrd, of the compass are attached via holes in this plate. Wiring for the pods enters thru the holes also. The pods have a short metal threaded pipe that extends through the plate is held in place on the underside with a large nut. The pods contain the wind instrument and controller for the ST4000 autohelm. 1985 H31 Yesterday's Dream

Cocktail sauce holder

Roger: If memory serves me, your 31 is the same vintage as Larry Morrows. I'll check his pedestal at the Rendezvous to see if you have the same holes. We're leaving on a 10 day cruise, with the last few at the Rendezvous in Solomons, so I'll check in when we get back. Glad you guys got back OK and had a good trip. I enjoyed your letters.
