The plastic sheaves (rollers) on our cheekblocks have dried out and are cracking into bits. We need to replace the cheekblocks ( with Garhauermarine 25-21S $18.20)...but are a bit unsure of whether to replace with cheekblocks like the original or switch to a single swivel block on a track. We are thinking of the block on a track in order to trim the jib closer to the wind by bringing sail bottom edge lower and straighter. Have others made a modification like this and could you offer suggestions on parts/manufacturers we could consider?

Black Dog Marine in Wisconsin may have replacements...I think they bought lot of the Merriman inventory when Merriman went out of business. Check a web site or call 414-769-7303. Ask for Gary.

cheek blocks

The sheaves on my merriman blocks are cracking as well, which I've teporarily fixed with a large Harken block fastened to the toerail, but my concern is that your jib sheets are led directly to the cheek block. I believe that the cheek block is intended as a turning block, and that the jib sheets should be led to "adjustable" lead blocks on the toerail forward of the cheek blocks. I, too, have considered a track, but I think it's place is well forward of the turning blocks. Best, Bill
