I am thinking of buying a RIB. I found a great deal on a new 2006 Mercury Ocean Runner 290. Can anyone tell me about the quality of these boats? I have read they are very rugedly built but a little on the heavy side. Nothing I have read so far has anything bad to say. I am looking for owners with first hand experience. Thanks Tim R.

Not an owner, but......

I believe that these inflatables are constructed with PVC material. PVC is well known for it's inferior resistance to sun UV rays. IMHO you would much better served with a dinghy made from Hypalon such as Achilles. I once had an Achilles that lasted 20 years before it got tired. I then bought a Zodiac made from PVC- it lasted 6 years and required numerous repairs to seams that kept parting. I now have an Achilles. And I expect to be using it until 2026.

Mercury

we've only had our Mercury (270 sports I believe) for three years now and so far no issues. It is heavier with teh floorboards, but they make it more stable than a soft inflatable floor. It rows real well adn we have no issue lifting it to teh foredeck using a spin halyard.
