I have a 2000 Mercury 8 hp long shaft engine and find the mechanism that holds the engine out of the water is HORRIBLE. When I set the engine, all it takes is a wee bit of movement of the boat and she tilts right back down into the water. I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with it or any alternative measures I can use to keep the engine out of the water. Thanks for any info you have. Michael H240

evenrude is same way

when its tilted it doesnt clear the water even with the bracket up . i use a 1/4 line in a loop tied to the stern pulpit and loop it under the engine , cheap fix works well. what more could you want!!

Mike, I had to raise the motor mount assembly

on my 95 H26 to overcome the same problem. The mount on the older boats was a wooden bracket directly bolted to the transom. Easy fix, just mount a board 2 inches taller into the same holes. There was quite a lot of discussion over this problem on boats such as yours, on this site, about 10 months ago. May to july of 2001. If I remember correctly there was a retro-fit mount that extended out about 2 inches further and thus raised higher when in the raised position. Or you must mount your bracket higher. I could be totally wrong on the above correction, as it didn't apply to my boat, but I know I'm right about the date. Hope this helps. Ray S/V Speedy
