On our last trip out about 2.0 hours under motor the engine began to give off a little smoke. This is the first time that I have noticed it and perofmrance does not seem to have changed. The motor is almost 1 year old with only 25-30 hours on it. Oil level and condition is good. Any thoughts / suggestions?

A little smoke is okay

You don't say the size of the boat or the type of engine, but if it's diesel then a little smoke is to be expected -- indeed encouraged.

Smoking Outboard

If your Merc O/B is a 2 cycle, smoke from the engine may indicate that the oil/gas mixyure is to rich. Check and make sure that you mix the oil/gas correctly to manufactures recommendation. To much oil will foul the spark plug and cause the engine to eventually stall. Another point, it is always a good idea to run the carburator dry before storing the motor, this will help keep from fouling the card jets and bowl. Fouled carbs do not run well.
