Well you got THAT out of the way (they say everyone has to do it, 2 types of sailors, those who have run aground and those who will)... I've been VERY lucky and haven't done it yet, but my days are numbered I am sure.

Couple positive things.. you didn't over react... you recognized the problem right away, and corrected it. Nobody got out of sorts. Remember this last one now... the Capri 22 is a tough little boat, designed to be trailered, and is likely just fine.

The downsides... You COULD have some issues now. You obviously didn't hit sand/mud, but instead hit rock. You came to a dead stop at probably 3.5 knots with as much as 3500lbs boat and crew, so that's a lot of force to apply to 6? keel bolts, and some glass/epoxy. Keel bolts SHOULD be checked. The keel attachment point should be checked (for cracks in glass, etc). Watch the boat like a hawk for leaks esp around keel bolts. Now breathe and read that last line of the last paragraph again.

Simplest rule I can give you to prevent it in the future, because I bet several others knew before it happened as well while watching. "Red on your right, returning." You were leaving, so RED on your left, LEAVING. I am sure you know this, but I generally remind myself just by saying it. I am totally envious of your sailing venue too :)

Other simple hints... structures (points, islands, hills etc) have tendency to continue underwater. There was a rock jeddy coming out just about where you hit. My bet is it continues well into, and under water.

Last thing... HEY I WANTED TO SEE SAILS IN A SAILING VIDEO!!! Glad you got the whole family going out too!

Thank god I was going very slow. Maybe a knot. So far no leaks. Boat is still pointing nicely. I will use my GoPro underwater to check out the keel.

brilliant, and that will work! Probably not a scratch, like I said, these are TOUGH boats.
