Well I'll be! Sitting here in the hospital with Boat US in my lap and missed that. Must be blowing, Warren's got a reef in. Do we know Mark Goodale, the photographer?

Was Warren wearing snow angel wings again?

I am still recovering from that picture.

Hi all,

Warren and I have the same model boat and our slips are nearby. As you might or might not know, Warren is an infamous non-reefer. Like William F. Buckley (according to his son Christopher), Warren tends to carry too much canvas. Unlike Buckley, Warren always leaves and returns to his slip without so much as a tap on a piling (Buckley always came in way too hot and was known up and down the East Coast as "Captain Crunch"). In any case, this is a very rare photo of Warren with a single reef in his main. Although you can't see whitecaps, I believe this was either an early or late season session with an SCA on the waters.

Mark and I had a great time sailing in tandem that early spring day. I think the winds were in the 15-18 kt range and gusting higher now and then. I have to admit the reefed main made sailing a lot easier that day. We both practiced heaving-to and a couple of other maneuvers...
