Melted Hose

The hose on my 1980 Catalina 27 that leads from the fill-up spout to the fuel tank,(Red about 2"diameter) is melting away. I know this sounds funny, but it is literally driping onto the floor. A couple of months ago I put in some anti-fungus solution when I filled the tank. I run about 70% soy-diesel and 30% regular diesel. The problem is at the lowest point of the hose at a small bend. I've never had any problems before. Could it be the anti-fungus solution? They also over filled the tank and that would mean there was fuel (and anti-fungus) in the hose for awhile. I'm replacing the hose, but I don't want this to happen again. Help? Thank you John Mesa PS: Nothing has dripped or been spilled on the hose.

What are you switching to?

I'm just wondering if a different type of hose would work better. I'd probably call a diesel engine shop - I'm sure they'd be happy to answer the question. Good luck! LaDonna

Soy Deisel

I thought I had heard that the soy-based diesel was hard on hoses. I know there was a link to their website that had that sort of info on it.

SoyGold

Here is the site for SoyGold that tells about the problem with curtain hoses (natural or butyl rubber). The section you should look at is at the bottom of the page under the heading Materials Compatibility. http://www.soygold.com/biodiesel.htm Hope this helps. P.S. I plan to try SoyGold in my boat and wonder what you think of the stuff. Thanks. Hayden Watson S/V Papillon 1988 C30 tr/bs Spokane, WA
