I posted a photo of the mega yacht Mirabella V as a joke in another thread. Once I saw this ship I must admit I was enthralled. Here is a ship that looks just like any other modern single mast boat in lines and proportions, yet it is 247 feel long. When you watch the video of it moving through the water, all the motions are familiar.
Who would have thought that you could just scale up to where you have a 48’ beam?
So I have to ask. Do you think the sailor of this ship gets the same sense of wonder and awe we feel when our sails are full? Standing at the helm completely isolated from wind and weather?
I took this picture of the Maltese Falcon when on a bareboat charter in Antigua. I’ve learned recently that it is setup for solo sailing. The sails have feedback sensors and the mast rotation auto adjust.
(not my photo) It’s still got to be fun, right? Has anybody got first hand experience sailing on one of these modern mega yachts?
