An admin is back on the throne.

He's a long-time and well-respected forum member, evidenced by his reaction points which rank #2 all-time on SBO.

I am referring, of course, to Dave Lochner.

Dave will be taking over the forum role I have played in the past:

- Setting forum policy
- Supervising site moderators
- Keeping the forum up to date technically
- Keeping an eye on the place to make sure nobody steals the towels

I'm excited about this because Dave is not only a smart, knowledgeable, and nice guy, but he has a deep and intuitive understanding of the culture we have tried to create here. The forum could not be in better hands; I believe Dave will do a fantastic job.

Please welcome him to his new role!

Under Phil’s guidance the SBO Forums have demonstrated it is possible to have dignified and civil discussions amongst sailors even about controversial sailing subjects. It is a community in which I am proud to be a part. With Phil’s abdication I will have big shoes to fill.

For those who don’t know me, I retired from a career in public education 9 :yikes: years ago. Having learned to sail as a child in Hawai’i, for the last 40 or so years I have sailed Lake Ontario, most recently on Second Star, a 1993 Sabre 362. In 2021 my wife and I set off on a 5,000 mile journey from Lake Ontario to Key West and back with a swing through the Bahamas. Our next adventure will be sailing out the St. Lawrence River to the Canadian Maritime Provinces. Recently I was drafted to oversee the refit of a 65-foot 1850s style top sail schooner to be used as a sail training ship for adolescents.

Just to keep people on their toes I will continue to wander about the forums using my civilian screenname, dlochner, however, when acting as administrator, I’ll show up as Dave. In one of his last acts Phil rejected my other suggestions for an admin name, Big Kahuna, God, The Grim Reaper. I’ll trust his guidance on that decision.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Let us enjoy each other’s company and camaraderie on the forums and welcome sailing newbies on their journey to becoming old salts.

I think Administrator Emeritus is, perhaps, a better moniker than Dethroned Admin! Just my 2 cents.
