I really like the idea of a mechanical autopilot as either a backup or a main. I've been told though that a fin keel (wing keel too) is too touchy for them (wind vang or sheeted tiller) and that they are mainly for full keel boats. I also don't see how I could put a wind vang on an open transom without cancelling out the advantages of having an open transom. Thoughts?
