The prop shaft has pulled almost completely out of the coupling on my O35. (I suspect it was because excessive growth on the prop caused it to be out of balance.) I've never done any work on that part of the system, and I know that once the shaft is back in the coupling, it should probably be aligned (while in the water). Since my "full service" marina can't find the time to take a look at it, much less fix it, does anyone know of a mechanic in the Annapolis area (Kent Island to be specific) that could address this problem? Ed.

Try Vosbury marine at1-410-427-3844 or

1-800-757-0935 They are across the bay at the White Hall yacht yard on Homewood Landing road. Edit to add; Just remembered there is also a good yard up on Langford Creek called Lankford marine.

I have had very good luck with K & K Marine in Kentmor. Ask for Paul. As I am home now in Rockville, I don't have their phone number at hand but information should be able to get it for you. Really good people are not all that common on Kent Island (my experience) but I have no qualms about recommending K & K.

shaft coupler

Hi ED The first thing to do is to clean the prop. Then wile you are down there I would try giveing it a push and slide it back in ,you should see a line on the shaft where the copler should sit.If the shaft is shiny it was probably comeing off for a wile the set screw may have worked a groove in the shaft.(bronze) Even sailing mite spin the prop out in the bay.If you tie at the dock and put the boat in gear and go forward the shaft will spin in,and you could grab it with vice grips.there are set screws on the coupler they have to go back in the dimpels in the shaft .Most coupler set screws ar 3/8 or half inch I like to use a socket extension with vice grips on the male end to tight the coupler.my shaft sliped out 3/4 of an inch and when i took it apart the parts had to much play. Then the yard guy helped me by snaping one of the set screws off .I replaced coupler, shaft, cuttless, prop .Im still not running smooth I will look at it this spring again . John PS keep a wood puug set handy.

Thanks to all

All of the responses were most helpful. I plan to have the boat hauled on 11/28, and I'll see if growth on the prop might be a contributing factor or not. The shaft has pulled out about 2-3 inches, and I'll have one of the suggested mechanics take a look to see what needs to be done. I like to do a lot of maintenance items myself, but since this is such unknown territory, I think I'll pay to have someone else look at it and try to learn from them. Thanks again for the responses. Ed.
