measurements for bunks on ODay 23 trailer

I am buying a powerboat trailer to modify for my O'Day 23. I need to add the bunks to lift it high enough so the shoal keel doesn't hit the frame. The trailer is tandem axle for a 22-24 Deep V powerboat. I was hoping someone with an ODay 23 could measure their trailer bunks and maybe send me a few photos of the details. Would very much appreciate the help.... bunk height, length and location would be great. I am not planning to take this on the highway - just want something to get it up the boat ramp and into the dry storage yard for extended periods of inactivity. Thanks in advance

Your design would vary a little- depending on whether you plan to use a flat keel board under the keel- which is probably a good idea. I have had O'day 23 trailers set up both ways. On a keel board trailer, usually the bunks are out a little further and also higher- more like "leaning boards" at outer edge of lower hull. If no keel board, the bunks are in more and not quite so high- because they are under the hull supporting all the weight-(with often 2 or more bunks per side to spread weight) Do you have a preference ? If you want to use a keel board (maybe a carpeted 2x10) I could probably supply some useful measurements.

Hi Lance... thanks very much for the reply... I am not really sure what a "keel board trailer" is exactly, but perhaps it means there's a board like the carpeted 2x10 you mention down the centerline of the trailer which the shoal keel rests on... is that it? and then the higher bunks to the outside? I also have a wing keel Catalina 22 and there's a plate in the bottom of that factory trailer that the wing keel sits on... so I'm guessing the keel board idea is similar and would run the full length of the shoal and beyond to fore and aft cross members?

Hi Joe- as we discussed I will send some pics and measurements. But since this question of bunk height comes up often, I will make a few comments. Everyone's cross members are likely in a different place and their trailers are different length. Also, the hardware to attach the bunk boards may be different. I will assume most are using tandem axles and flat crossmembers that are at the same height as outer frame rails and that the keel board is 1.5 inches thick and carpeted. If this is the case, the adjustable uprights lower body should be about 16'' long and out approx 31" from the center line running down center of trailer. If using some uprights up close to the bow, they can be longer- with the lower part about 20''. This will allow much flexibility on which cross member the uprights are mounted on. It also would allow to lower enough for bottom paint or to haul a boat that would have slightly less draft than an O'Day 23. Pics coming soon.
