Anyone ever try these meals called "heater meals"? I have no idea if they taste like chewed cardboard or are actually tasty, but it's an interesting concept, as they 'heat in the box' - which would be especially great on a bad weather day... wonder if they use the same technology as foot warmers! :D Just curious if anyone had tried them (there was nothing in the archives.) Dave s/v Wind Dreamer II (PS - I have no affiliation with this company - just happened to find them on another google search I was doing...)

Heater meals

My Admiral is an emergency manager, and the heater meals guys (Innotech Products, Ltd) are always at the trade shows she goes to <with freebes>. They never have any trouble giving away their food. We have tried several of their meals, and like the spicer beans and rice or BBQ the best. Easy to use and gives you a hot meal which can go a long way to making you fee better after standing under a cold shower all day.(just add water to the heater package). Since they have a long shelf life you can leave them on the boat for that day you get caught out late. And if you are a gulf coastee, your better have a few for the next hurricane, anyway.

These sound like...

Repackaged MREs (Meal, Ready to Eat) that the military use. I remember "just add(ing) water" to my packet and presto, burnt fingers (the first time). Didn't think it would get that hot. I agree that a hot meal, any kind, is very comforting to ones psyche. [added]Just checked the links, yep... repacked MREs. Cool.

They taste OK

Not a gourmet meal but not cardboard either. We have several in our pantry for Hurricane season. Now that I think of it its been a few years since I got them and they may need a stock rotation.

If I recall...

These types of meals are very high in calorie count, and, worst of all, have a tendency to cause constipation. At least the MREs did. I hope that is not the case with these.

Heater Meals

I got a couple of cases of Heater Meals from the Navy after Katrina. They are the Navy's MRE's They are entree' only, at least what I had. I also had MRE's from the Nat'l Gaurd and both were good, but I prefered the variety of the MRE's. We were without power for a couple of weeks.

I happen to have "fond" memories

of "C" Rations. Anyone remember them? Who could forget a can of solidified spam and cheese? Or a coffee cake in a can? Ah, the memories. I'd really rather be sailing...

Fond memories of C-rats....

yeah, me too..... had to open the case upside-down to give everybody a chance at the good ones. :) Telling the nugs to heat their beans and wienies on the jeep engine, but neglecting to mention they should put a vent hole in first ;D Ahhhh, the good OLD days! Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

MRE's are Expensive

MRE's aren't very good and are expensive compared to other foods. If you shop around there are lots of easy foods in the supermarket. Soft pack tuna and chicken Oatmeal to go Just plain ole peanut butter We use the room temperature milk I thought of MRE's and just decided that there is too much better food at lower prices. We keep some canned soup and stews on board for emergency use. But we have a stove. When sailing alone I usually just eat cold stuff until the anchor is dropped. Hot coffee in a thermos to wash it down if it is cold weather.

Hey Guys, learn to make pancakes and fry

eggs. If you plan just a little you don't need to eat like a refugee.

Something that ended in '...Sam I Am' I think

now we're going WAYYYYY back.... although I did read all the Dr. Seuss books to my daughter, but that was still 20 years (and a few cold ones) ago. Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8
