Hello felow MarinerslI am able to reach 4.5 knt max with my Vega, clean hull no wind or current. Is there anyone who can get more than that out there?A little 1 foot chop will bring it down to 3 knt .The prop is in good shape no barnacles.ThanksDavid 2226

As I recall we were doing 6 to 6.5 knot with a 2GM20 Yanmar.
If I may change the tread a bit. Anyone who did a recent re-power with diesel I'd appreciate rough estimates of costs; engine, prop, shaft, controls, stringers fuel systems, etc. Lryic is out of the water and on her trailer in my backyard. I'll be doing
a bit of work on her in preparation to be sold. Asking price is $20,000 which includes a 1994 F350 XLT 7.3 L Turbo Diesel crew-cab work truck and a custom build galvanized trailer by Quality Trailers in Bellingham, Washington. The boat is the best Vega. Or
at least she was in her time. The electronics need replacement and she has fought a losing battle with a dock in Oregon, in all fairness the dock had help. Ocean surge assisted and together they played hell with her paint. She is a seriously well equipped

Before I fitted a Beta in 2000 I had the standard Volvo engine with Combi Variable prop and easily achieved 6 knots plus. She handled the sea state very well.It sounds to me as if your engine is not delivering enough power.My Beta engine will achieve 6.5 knots but I rarely go faster than 5 knots which I regard as my cruising speed and my fuel is then 1.3litres per hour (just over a quarter of a gallon) so approaching20 mpg.
