Heading out of annapolis a couple of
days ago and something came loose
inside my MD6A.

I am now getting repower quotes.
Everyone around here seems to sell Yanmar. I found one Beta guy.

What are the tips n tricks i should look out for?

Seems the motor mounting beds are slanted downward towards the aft at the shaft angle?

I have an md6a combi which ran for almost 40 years & ran well last fall when I pulled my vega... I replaced the Volvo penta with a beta marine 14 last winter. I couldn't find a mechanic in down east Maine who would rebuild the Volvo, for love or money.
If someone wants my old engine, transmission, shaft & prop, & engine control system (all original) let me know & we'll see what can be done...

Beta ia a good choice. Less expensive than Yanmar and parts that are non
marine are standard Kubota tractor parts which are well priced.
Beta can customize the mounts for your boat for about $300.

I recently re-powered my Series 1 with a Beta 14. Pretty happy with it so

alignment of the alternator. In amongst my refurb pics are a fair few
pictures relating to installation of the engine if this is of help. Because
the installation replaced an outboard, it included prop, shaft and hardware
as well which I guess is something that would also have to be done if you
have the variable pitch prop setup that needs replacing. The site is

Hi Jeff

Dust is caused by the heat of the engine room. There is a fix available from Beta which entails changing the pulleys (3) and using a Poly Vee Belt.

Let me know if you need any extra information

Cheers

Hi Groundhog

Beta is teh way to go, nearly 150 Vega owners cant be wrong. Installation is a piece of cake for Series II and III Vegas. If you have problem sourcing the Beta then drop me an email at:

steve@... Full fitting instructions, full kit, photos, the lot...

IMHO, I repowered with the Yanmar and if I was going to do it again would go with the Beta. Walt
