MD6 Injector Removal

Hi gang, anyone have any tips on removing injectors from the beloved
MD6 diesel engine? When I loosen the nuts, the injectors don't want
to budge. Is there a tool? Should I spray them with WD40 etc?
Should I tap on them sideways with a pce of wood? Help? Trevor -

I believe there is a sketch I put in my picture file under "Good Things" with the injector dimensions. Has some other info on it too.
The injectors just slide in there. There is no threads or anything.

I remember having trouble getting them out too, but can't remember how I got them out. Think I just kept pulling on them and they came out. Maybe open the decompression lever. Maybe warm up the engine first.

Try a big screw driver under the 3 washers.

You will need to change out all of those little metal washers as they are meant for a one-time deformation.

If you intend to check compression, there is a manufacturer/partno. on the sketch that makes an adapter.

Trevor-
I grabbed hold of them with pliers, twisted back and forth and they
eventually came out. Turning over the engine would probably help
also. The compression should blow them out.

Roy, thanks for the tips. But can you tell me about the washers that
need to be "replaced" ? How many are there under each injector? After
you remove the injectors, how do you get those washers out? Thanks

I was talking about the little ones that are all around the fuel delivery pipes.

I have seen info suggesting that there are washers down in the holes for the injectors, but I never found any. I made a little hook thing and tried to fish anything out of there and didn't get anything. I don't think there are any down there.

Heck, maybe that's my problem! I am still having low output from my motor. I got 400 psi compression when I tested it, maybe I am loosing it from leaking around my injectors.. lol.

Hi Trevor
I am a wimp - I got a mechanic to remover injectors for servicing from my
MD6A. He charged me about Euro100... I plan to do it myself next time.

The washers are made of copper and the diesel/injector service outfit will
give you 2 replacement washers (one for each injector) along with your
spiffy shiny clean injectors.

As to getting the old washers out - the mechanic (may he never be as poor
as I am) had no problem removing them, he says.

And after the injector overhaul the engine ran so well - 6 knots almost
flat out - that I started to have overheating problems.

But that - as they say - is another story.

Thanks to all for the helpful info/suggestions. Am going to try to
pull the little devils this weekend and will report to you on the
results. Wish me luck. Usually I break something, injure myself,
then pay the mechanic twice as much to do the job I should have got
him to do in the first place. Trev #2915

Trevor:

When I pulled the injectors on my MD6A, I did it with the help of a diesel
mechanic. We sprayed them with a rather generous amount of good penetrating
oil and let it sit overnight. Tapping them, somewhat gently, may - or may not
- have helped the penetrating oil do its job. Then we pried them out. Once
out, it was easy to subsequently remove them.

Do be aware that, (at least on my Vega, #1868) the overhead that is just
above the engine, does slide out to give a few inches more work-room in that
area.
