I am in need of an engine replacement and have found a Volvo Md-7 at an extremely good price. Question is: are both engines approximate same physical size? Is it going to take some major adjustments to fit the MD-7? The boat is in Berlin, Germany so I can't take advantage of the good deals available in the States.

Hi Frank

What gearbox does the MD7A engine have? What is your original engine? Has the MD7A been rebuilt? Remember it will still be a 30 year old engine, cheapest is not always the cheapest!

I am not certain, but am under the impression that the MD6A and MD7 are from the same block. MD6=10hp, MD7=13.5hp.
You should be able to verify using the web.roy

Steve,
You're right, it remains an old engine, as is the boat. I am not sure what kind of gear box it has (if any). Presently I have a Westerbeke W-13, 13hp. Hurth transmission. If I could afford it I would definitely go with a new engine, and in all likely hood a Beta. I have only heard good reports. but I am not sure what the bottom line (end ) cost would be.
at any rate, nothing is set in concrete, yet.
