I'm a new owner of a Victoria 18, in search of the gizmo that shows your angle of tilt. I've seen it on other Vics, and with the cover on, it looks like a monkey face.
BTW - this was one of the most user unfriendly sites I have ever registered for. "Missing info" would ideally highlight what info is missing.

Couldn't help but like your post. The user interface recently underwent an overhaul, so this info could be useful.

Forgive me, but why do you want an inclinometer? To me, I'm either heeling acceptably or too damned much. They're out there for sale. Heck, I've got one you can have.

most every sailboat parts supplier will have the same inclinometer. I'm struggling to see the "monkey face" however ;) .
Good choice on the Vic. just had mine out today for a very pleasant solo sail. Cabin is too small, but otherwise I can't find a thing to complain about on it.
Welcome aboard!

@karena, welcome, and say HI to Arlyn, Glen and Nancy, and all the other Vic18 owners on Harriet, there is more of those boats there then anywhere else on earth!

I love that pic of the pretty girl sailing the Victoria. Last year, I was sailing neck and neck with a guy from the club who had a Victoria. In the light wind, we were closely matched for speed, and neither of us was scared sailing or tacking within spitting distance of each other. I think we freaked out this other guy sailing near us, because he tacked away quickly. The sad part of this story was Ed sold his Vic over the winter, and ordered a Com-Pac Horizon Picnic Cat. Then he came to find out that the Com-Pac is too wide to fit in his old 20' slip, and there were no openings for the 24' slip. So now he's going down to Barnegat Bay until a slip at the lake opens up. Ed's Vic was green hull, tanbark sails. Pretty boats, the Vic 18, pretty little boats.

The hat really sets the tone for that pic.... :)
Oh, it's sure not hurting a thing! I... I... Naw, I can't go there...

That pic just reminds me I HAVE to get back out to Minneapolis and go racing with Jackdaw. His club is stocked with so much better crew than mine!

OP. The Vic 18, like any small and light sailboat, initially gets bumped easily with small gusts of wind. this can be disconcerting to new sailers (aka girls ;) ) , but believe me, the Vic gets _very_ solid in a blow, and once you convey that message, your passengers will settle down quickly. a 1200b boat with 550b of lead in it's butt will want to stay on it's feet like the old rock-em-sock-em you had as a kid ;) . I do find the inclinometer very useful however, when a passenger is claiming "we were almost on our side" I tell them to keep and eye on it for me. they soon realize that what they might perceive as 45* is often actually only 10*, which reassures them better than anything you could say.

Thanks everyone, for the helpful and fun comments. I was pleasantly surprised to find that inclinometers are one of the lower-priced boat items. I love the term screamometer, but have to say that as a female sailor, I won't be bringing a wife or girlfriend out. And I think I've elicited more screams from my male passengers than the females. I want a screamometer to encourage me to heel up more. Most of my experience has been on scows and catamarans, which WILL dump, and are a serious pain to right.
I'm Karen, many of my friends call me Karena.
My next question for experienced Vic owners is how to replace the jib cleats. One is totally non-functional, the other is iffy. I have replacements, but am having trouble getting the old cleat off. There's a nut at the bottom that is spinning around, and I can't figure out an access point. I'm hoping to launch on Friday afternoon, so speedy responses are especially valued.

Karena is a beautiful name with a nautical heritage. Long E or short?

Even if you used a hack to saw the old bolt off, you would still need to get to the back to hold the new nut. I'm guessing if you squeezed down the lazarette berth, you would see the backing plate and nut for your jib cleat. Borrow someones 9-year old kid and offer $5 to slide on down there with a vice-grip and hold the nut for you while you back out the bolts.

Hi Jackdaw, I recognize your boat. I sailed a Nacra 5.0 for several years on Harriet, but have now upgraded to a Vic.

 We'll here's mud in _my_ eye . what I _meant_ to say was..... oh never mind,... you get it ;) to access the nut you'll have to shinny up into the torpedo tube (aka berth), from the cabin, to reach the nuts. having someone up top with a phillips screwdriver will of course be required also. What line size jib sheets do you have on the boat now? should be 3/8, as smaller may not "jam" as well. hopefully you're replacing with another self jamming horn cleat? I love those things on mine. so much so that I replaced the non jamming ones on my Mac with them also. If worse comes to worse, and you just have to sail before replacement is possible, you can always run the sheet across the cockpit to the opposite side cleat for a day ;) .
