We hsve purchased a 2000 Catalina with a maxwell Windless. Each time we have anchored (so far, three times) it has jammed on the way up or on the way down. Has anone experienced this problem and fixed it in some way? Joe H

correct chain and connectors

Joe: Do you have the correct chain and connectors (assume that you have chain & rope)?

Check the cable

We have a Lewmar windlass on our Hunter 44. We experienced the same problem and found out that all the electrical wiring to the windlass was loose. We tightened everything up and replace the circuit breaker, just in case, and all seems to be working fine now.

Sounds like you may have a three ply nylon rode that has a tendency to twist into hockles! Or perhaps your rope to chain splice may be too thick to pass easily through the windlass. That's the spot I often have trouble. I try to keep the rope/chain splice running smoothly as I can as it approaches and is pulled through the windlass. It's important not to let the rode pile up directly below the windlass, too. Keep clearing the rode and spread it evenly around the anchor well as the rode is coming in.
