Hi,

Does anyone have the detail drawings on the Maxwell 23 2 speed winch? I believe they were original equipment on my 1987 H28.5. I took them apart for cleaning and now have a pile of gears and parts, more like a puzzle.

Thanks

It might be best t get new ones. The Australian company that now has the rights to build new parts does so on a very sparingly interval, which really equate to never...
Good Luck if you need some parts!!!

I had a couple of Hunters that came with Maxwell winches. Think about replacing them when you can if winches are important to the type of sailing you do. I replaced my Maxwell 24's with Lewmar 46's and OMG, what a difference.

For a contrary opinion...

...service them and carry on. You are learning something and not spending needlessly.

I figured it needed to be said, seeing as how the only other responders suggested you forget it and buy new ones. Seems rather extreme.

I, too, really like the Maxwell 23 STs on the H28.5 I think with some care and maintenance, they are bulletproof. I do think they may be a bit undersized when sheeting in a very large headsail, but that can be offset by perfecting your tacking techniques. Lewmar 46s are really quite nice, really quite expensive, and really overkill on a boat like the H28.5.

I serviced my Maxwells over the winter and what a difference it made. Just don't lose any of the parts and be careful of the cam orientation when you reassemble
