My bow thruster turned on the other day but had no response from either button. Battery checks out fine, looking for some troubleshooting tips. Thanks

my neighbor has a 423 with a lewmar thruster, i helped him troubleshoot it last year and the control switch was bad, i think he paid about $100 for a new one. we confirmed power going to control but no output.

depending on how it's wired, maybe a blown fuse in the common supply line to the up/down switch?

We have a separate battery switch for ours located near the main battery switches. Also a separate set of batteries.

New 423 owner here.
Zeus...... where are your dedicated batteries? Are they connected to your windlass as well? That is a long run and some heavy wires running forward.

The batteries for the bow thruster are under the v-berth and we also have a dedicated switch for the windlass so I guess we have a separate battery for it too. When I get home I will shoot a pic later today.

Thanks! Would love to know what size batteries are there as well.

Pics of our bowthruster motor and batteries, plus their individual battery breakers/switches. We have one electric winch also. Did not include the breaker switches after all. Apparently I did include the breaker for our heater.

Directly under the head of the v-berth. Pretty much very close to the bowthruster "tunnel."

Don't want to be a pest but when you think about it, if you could shoot an aerial
Picture of their placement. Seems logical to have a forward bank not connected to the house bank. What size battery up front?

Thanks!

I cannot shoot an aerial. They are under the head of the bunk. Under our pillows. An aerial would show the pillows. The access hatch is vertical. I posted pictures of the batteries. There are two batteries and one motor. I don't know what more I can do.

1) can you get a dc clamp on voltampohmmeter to measure 12v dc volts at the red hot connection into thruster motor body and compare that at battery + to see if you are suffering significant voltage drop ? and then for good measure check the dc amps flowing through the red hot close to the thruster motor ? (measure volts with engine running, it may be that wire corrosion or a bad ground at thruster end is decreasing the voltage through the hot feed wire.) 2) does your bow thruster require oil additions into its gear leg? if it's not a sealed leg, some thrusters have an auto shutdown so you won't and can't run the thruster motor when it's low on oil. (The Max power 60 thrust I have on my boat has a sealed get leg with no oil top up ever required. some thrusters don't. check with your manufacturer .)

A couple years back while on the hard the bow thruster on my B46 started for no apparent reason. I thought it was the reversing solenoid but turned out the Lewmar touchpad at the helm went bad. I would start there.

Anyone know how to remove the Lewmar bow thruster control panel (touchpad) from a 2007 B49? No obvious screws and no access to the back side...unless maybe I remove the Raymarine instrument(s).

My bust. An access panel in the aft berth gives perfect access. Now to order a replacement - all connections look in order and without corrosion so thinking it must be the face plate itself leaking and shorting internally.

If you have voltage to the control then the fuse likely is OK and the battery switch is on. If the light on the control is on indicating power is on but thruster does not run it could be a bad battery or bad connection or brushes on the motor. I'd start with the battery test. The thruster is a high amperage load and if the battery is bad-low electrolyte if not sealed AGM or has shorted cells the motor will not run even though it looks like there is voltage and the control turns on. If its not the battery, check the brushes.
