Had a wornderful weekend on the Lake... it was 80 degrees, sunny, and the wind was at 20-25 knots. I'm still learning how to handle our First 285 and was curious about how fast she will sail. What is the fastest you've been able to sail? and in what kind of wind?

One of the postings in the archives calculates the theoretical hull speed. 7.2 sticks in my mind, but dont hold me to it. Fraid I am no expert on speed. My 285 has used sails from another boat on her, so she isn't powered correctly at the moment.

You might try finding the polars for your boat. They will provide you with theoretical boat speeds for various wind speeds and points of sail. The archives for the Beneteau owners list at Sailnet.com is one place you might look. Randy

6.6 knots

Thanks for the suggestions... the theoretical hull speed is about 6.6 knots. Has anyone gotten close?
