I recently installed a new Max prop. I have a Oceanius 381 with a Westerbeke 42B engine. The old prop was a fixed 3 blade 15 in diam and a 13 pitch. I am having trouble getting the new prop correctly pitched. I know it must be somewhere between 26 (first try) and 16 (Current try). The haul outs are getting expensive. Has anyone installed a max prop on a similar boat/engine and how did you set the pitch? thanks rsorbo

Max Prop Setting

Rsorbo, My Oceanis 390 berthed in North Saanich Marina came with a MaxProp 3-blade Classic installed by the former owner. It is a great prop and should work well for you once you get the thing set properly. When I get to about 4 knots under sail I move the gear shift into reverse briefly and I hear a welcoming clunk from down below and I know the prop has feathered. I am not going to be much help, but you might try Sidney Propeller in Van Isle Marina. Make sure you lube it properly during future haulouts. Maybe the website for MaxProp? Peter svtula

max prop settings

just put a new max prop on our boat this spring. Pyacht was helpful at telling us the settings. You can download the settings from their website as well. I presume you have a 3 blade classic. They can tell you since there are two settings. One for inner gear and one for the outer gearset. We bought a 16" and the setting were "S" for the inner and "C" for the spinner. Pyacht can tell you which settings to use.

Chris - post mortem, please

Sorry to hijack this thread - but Chris we never did get all the details of the installation of your max prop - and more iomportantly the performance enhancements - speed while sailing and motoring , weather helm or other steering issues? - regards Brian B321

Max prop performance

Installation for me was tough. I had to try about 3 times. It was very stiff at first. Took all the grease out and also lightly tapped the inner gear to reduce the stack height of the assembly. Works great. Seems like the boat is going faster than it ever has. No problems with steering or anything else.
