We recently installed a Max Prop on our 450 Passage and the yard doing the installation indicated that they had a great deal of experience with this prop and set the pitch to the maximum. The boat will not exceed 5.8 Knots into the wind with the throttle in the wide open position. I do not have any experience with the Max Prop, but it would appear that the pitch is set too high. Has anyone else use this prop and experimented with the pitch settings?

I recall 15 degrees on my H29.5, but it took our experienced yard guy two dips in the water to get it right. You'll know it's right because you'll hit the sweet spot much as you did before, but with more power/speed. They'll get it right, take him with you if necessary. By the way, the unintended benefit of Max Prop is that it's fantastic in reverse. Be patient.

On our 2000 h450 with 75 hp Yanmar engine (4JH3-TE) we have a 3 blade 18" Diameter MaxProp. Originally we used a 26 degree blade angle & 16.6 Pitch or a X = V and a Y = B settings. This gave us a max. rpm of about 3,500 (not high enough). In 2004 we change the settings to 24 degrees blade pitch & 15.0 Pitch or X = S & Y = C. This gives us a max. rpm of 3,650. We normally cruise at 2,500 rpm at about 7.5 kts., with a max. speed just under 9 kts. Hope this helps, Gordon on Utopia III, a h450
