Has anyone traded up from a fixed three blade to a Max-Prop 3 Blade Classic.I would be interested in any info on a comparison to the original equipment three blade.

Prop

I replaced my 3 blade fixed prop on my Catalina 320 with a 3 blade feathering prop from Autostream by Martec. It is awesome. About the same in forward gear, 1/2 knot faster sailing and unbelieveable in reverse. Prop walk alomst eliminated and when the leading edge switches in reverse the power is unreal. If you get stuck in the mud you can usually power right off. Go for it!

Joe is right on the money

I agree with Joe on the improvements a feathering prop will make over a fixed three blade. I've changed fixed 3 blade props to 3 blade max props on my last two boats. Similar forward, faster sailing and amazing bite powering in reverse. Next to new sails, the prop upgrade will be the next highest performance upgrade I can think of! Best, Trevor

I did this change

Dream Weaver, I recently changed from the 3-blade fixed prop to the MaxProp 3-blade feathering prop on my C350. Some thoughts... 1. I lost 2 kts of speed in forward. I went from 6.5 kts to 4.5. I reported this to PYI and they gave me some tests to do. After the tests, I reported back to them. They recommended that the pitch angle was incorrect. They originally told me to set it at 18 degrees. After the tests, they had me change it to 22 degrees. Tomorrow will be the first test of the new pitch angle. If you are interested, I can report back to you. 2. If you are going to install the MaxProp yourself, have a hacksaw ready. You will need to cut off about 1/2 inch of the shaft. 3. Practice assembling the prop at home prior to going to the boat. 4. Reverse. Wow - what power! 5. Prop walk. Still have it, but now I don't have to leave the transmission engaged in reverse as long as I used to. A short burst of reverse, then to neutral... I can then back up much easier. 6. Sailing. Have gained about .5 to 1.0 knot when sailing. Especially in light winds. I'm glad I got the MaxProp. If there is anything else I can assist with, let me know. Jack "Friendship" C350, #80

Feedback on speed issue

I would appreciate hearing your results after adjusting the prop.I am assuming this is a 63mm hub,3 blade, 15 inch model ?If so they are saying change the pitch from 18 degrees (9.2 inch pitch) to 22 (11.4 inch pitch)

MaxProp test results

Hi Glenn, The test results were positive. We have regained most of our original forward speed. Original recommended pitch (18 degrees): max speed = 4.5 knots at 2400 RPM no increase beyond 2400 RPM New recommended pitch (22 degrees): max speed = 6.3 knots at 2100 RPM no increase beyond 2100 RPM Yes, you are correct, this is the 3-blade 15 inch MaxProp. By the way, Glenn, are you in Rock Hall, MD? If so, where did you get your C350? I saw a new C350 on jackstands at my marina (Tidewater - Havre de Grace) and it had a MaxProp installed. Just wondering if it was yours. Joe, I paid approx $2000 for my MaxProp. Sincerely, Jack "Friendship" C350, #80
