Sorry for two topics.

Max Prop - Based on some previous threads on this site and the poor condition of my two blade prop, I am getting ready to install a 3 bladed max prop. I am currently getting about 5.5 knots @ 3000 RPMs. Any last minute advice from anyone? Price is $2750 plus haul out, plus install, plus.......... Yikes!

CO Alarms - I am going to replace all three of my five year old CO Alarms. I called Costar, the original manufacture of the Marine CO alarms on my 2007 Hunter 36. They no longer make a marine grade CO alarm. I am now looking at replacing them with Marine Technologies Sea Fire (model 60-541). $90 each = ouch, but worth it and a tenth of the price of the prop. Does anyone have a better option for the CO Alarm replacements?

Thanks and take care.

Cheaper, a little bit...

http://www.safe-t-alert.com/ms1.htm

(Same model now appears to be selling for $59. to $65. from various vendors on the web.

Link to the one we have used for years on our boat.
My own experience in this thread:
http://www.ericsonyachts.org/infoexchange/showthread.php?6713-CO-Detector-on-duty&referrerid=28

Given that the makers seem to pressure us to replace them in only five years, they seem like kind of a rip off. My take on it is that these last a lot longer but the makers are worried about liability, so the reccommendation may by coming from lawyers rather than engineers...
Or is my cynicism misplaced?

Replaced

I put 3 new co alarms with smoke from Home Depot for about $40.00 and use 9 volt battery and they talk,I also have a Flex O Fold three blade on my 2007 H-36 since 2008 and love it for sailing and great motoring and Reverse.

Re: Maxprop. You'll be glad you did! The unintended bonus is that it is essentially a brake when put in reverse making maneuvering in tight spots a lot easier.

I put a three blade Max Prop on a Hunter 380 some years ago. No you won't go faster overall but you will go faster in chop. It drives the boat well even in rough waters. It has more power. I agree with Don that it will make maneuvering around docks that much easier. I hadn't thought of it as a brake but it is. You will get applause for how well you maneuver your boat.

You may also find that your engine runs smoother but I believe all three blades are smoother.

My best to you,

Les

I have a Variprop on my H36 which is also a folding prop. At 3000 RPM I make 6.5 knots. You will be real glad you installed the MaxProp.

Thanks for the responses folks. I've ordered three new Marine Sea fire CO detectors, at a much better price at Wholesale Marine. I will install a Three Blade Max prop at the next haul out.
Take care and ........
See ya
