masts???

hunter 25 Brunswick me
i am buying a 25 foot hunter, and i am wondering about the mast?
the boat only has a bolt running through the bottom of the mast?
what i need to know is? is it only a bolt the attaches the mast to the boat?
or do i need more can some on send me a pic of their mast so i can see what it looks like????

No, the bolt is only to provide lateral stability for the mast at the deck level. The mast is held to the boat by the wires called shrouds or stays. They do this by tensioning the shrouds so that they compress the mast to the deck.

We recently purchased a 1974 Hunter 25. The mast had the base you describe. The marina here does not have a crane (small, inland lake) and the base of the mast was actually deformed from from the previous owner's hoisting it. We cut off the bottom of the mast and installed a new tabernacle which acts like a hinge. Put it up for the first time this week and it worked great! We recently purchased a 1974 Hunter 25. The mast had the base you describe. The marina here does not have a crane (small, inland lake) and the base of the mast was actually deformed from from the previous owner's hoisting it. We cut off the bottom of the mast and installed a new tabernacle which acts like a hinge. Put it up for the first time this week and it worked great! the boat has the u plate with a bolt, but i am wondering if it needs a shim?
i am sure it is not metal to metal!!
