Masts with joins in them

Revisiting the recent discussion on mast repair, I'd like to submit a couple of pictures I took at a local marina last week of 'joined' masts.
One appears to use screws, and the other rivets. Both images are a bit large, but the detail is good. I don't know if they were repaired, or if they came this way originally. Both were on larger boats (35' or more).

It is interesting that they are both joined at the spreaders?

Also in mast1.jpg the two halves are different in color. Perhaps the mast was shipped in sections ?
