Masthead Wind Transducer Installation

I finally bought the ST-60 Wind and the bosuns chair. Now I need to plan ahead before I climb the mast. I have a Z-spars furling mast on a Hunter 310. I would like to know if there is a cap that can be removed at the top of the mast and the cable dropped down the mast, or if I need to push the entire length of the cable down a 1/4" hole blind-I hope not-. I'm also interested to know if there is any conduits inside the cabin for running the cable from the bottom of the mast entry point to the instument location over the companionway. Thanks. Lee

Mast wiring.

I thought you would have heard from another H310 owner by now. From following this website for many years I can state with some certainty that you will need to unstep the mast. Even if you could get the wire through the mast how will you make the connection at the step? But I think a call to Hunter would get you the detail that you need. I am doing the same thing right now but the mast(Kenyon) is horizontal. The top plate is integral(welded) and has a wiring channel behind the sailtrack. I think your wiring is internal though. Good luck.

there's a line in mine

If you pull off the cover plate in the cabin roof under the mast, you can see the existing connections to the mast-mounted equipment. In my 310, I discovered that hunter? had provided a spare messenger line going to the masthead going through an empty connector. As I had a radar installed, I'm not sure if the messenger was installed at the factory or by my dealer, but look for it- you might get lucky. Good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I think I'll return the ST-60 to the store and get my money back and buy a gennaker instead! I spent a few hours yesterday trying to snake an electricians fish tape from the bottom of the mast to the instrument cluster with no success. I discovered that there is corrugated pvc conduit for the existing wires but its so full that could not get a tape through it. I usually don't give up easily but this one has me beat. Lee

Genaker?

For sure that will be a lot more fun. Hopefully the halyard is there. Eventually, though, you will unstep and be able to run those wires.
