I WANT TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL Z-SPAR MAIN HALYARD SHEAVE WITH A BALL BEARING UNIT. I'M THINKING THAT A BALL BEARING UNIT WOULD GO UP AND DOWN SUPER SMOOTH. HAS ANYONE OUT THERE FOUND A BB REPLACEMENT FOR THE ORIGINAL? HARKEN, SCHAEFFER AND RONSTAN DON'T SEEM TO HAVE PRODUCTS THAT MATCH.

sheave

Rick I replaced the sheaves on my z-spar mast a couple of years ago. couldn't find Ball bearing sheaves, but Charlestown spar had delrin sheaves available. probably as good or better than ball bearing sheave. they can be reached at 704-597-1502 Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410

Most of the friction is in the mast track, not in the sheave. Invest in a can of McLube and spray your mast track once or twice a year. You will be pleasantly surprised. Peter H23 "Raven"

US Spars

US Spars in Gainesville FL they import Zspars under the US Spar name. They might have the sheave you need.

Not ball bearings...

Ball bearing sheaves are not meant for extended heavy loads. The ball bearings loose their shape and create flat spots. This will make your main more difficult to work. Stick to the simple sheaves. They are low cost and reliable. Lube the track to make the main easier to raise/lower.
