How do the masthead sheaves come out? I have 1997 Catalina tall rig and it looks like they come out the top by sliding to center then up and out. Or do they need to slide out the front / back in which case do the forestay and back stays need to be removed?
All rope halyards.
Thanks, Mark

You have several places to look

Look up Catalina Direct which is unaffiliated from Catalina Sailboats. Check with the Catalina 30 Association on the internet. Finally call Catalina sailboats plant in Largo, Florida and ask for skip

Keep me posted @M7e

Yep, on my 93 they slide to center then up and out. Here are a couple of photos.

Wow Ward! Thanks for sharing and with pictures too. I have to wait for our lake to drop 3 feet before the crane and rigger can reach the masthead. Nice to know I won’t have to remove the whole rig just to install new sheaves.
Again Thanks,
Mark

Mark, you may not “have” to remove the “whole rig” but you may want to. If it as been 20 plus years since the rig has been serviced it might be time to check all the fittings on the rig and mast. I know we northern boat owners get a few extra year’s service on our rigs, but the parts on our rigs do require inspection and maintenance. Corrosion accumulation kills by a thousand cuts. If you are having issues with the mast head there are likely other hidden issues to attend to.
Certainly PacificNW lake sailing is easier on boats than the Puget Sound or the ocean.

Just thoughts.
