I guess I should have been more precise. I am interested in mast gate locks. This keeps the sales slugs from coming out of the mast.At the master gate

Any photos of a mast gate lock on a catalina thirty

My C30 just used a 1/4-20 bolt and washer threaded into a drill and tapped hole.

As Ward said, sometimes it's a threaded bolt. I've seen many knurled knobs. The pic is a knurled knob with a female thread. you'd be wanting a male thread.

Take a look at the "luff jack line" or "reef jack line" mentioned in the KapppyKaplan's links above. If you do a quick search on this site you'll find a number of threads addressing the topic. I think this is a really cool solution to managing the mainsail and its sliders.
