See the boat in San Diego

The boat used in the movie is in San Diego. Last time I saw it it was over at shelter island. We were able to walk right up to it. Spoke to the crew on board, they wouldnt let us on board. The boat was built 35 years ago.

I Was Recently Under Attack

The "boat" is still in San Diego but has been moved to the San Diego Maritime Museum dock next to the Star Of India.Several months ago I sailed past the boat at Shelter Island and noticed unusual spashes nearby. When I looked back at the boat I saw two young boys on the main deck firing water baloons at me with slingshots. I later mentioned the incident to the yard manager where it was moored and he said I was not the only boat the boys fired at and they had put a stop to their actions when they found out about it. Boys will be boys. I thought it was fun to be under attack.

The pirates invade here every year. thousands enjoy the pirate invasion, a real pirate ship, with a thousand or so blood thirsty bussiness men do it in style in february in tampa!Hundreds of boats go out to defend the port but they always lose!!Damn the pirates. thene there is the victory parade, with about 400,OOO spectators!Is a Kick!!

Authentic sea scenes were actually real

To get the exact water for the story, a crew filmed a crossing of the specific area of ocean covered by the boat, hence precise color and form of the seas. This film is a masterpiece made at a time when "entertainment" takes precedence over authenticity. The whole production company deserves an Oscar for that alone. Here's hoping its one of a series.

M+C neds your viewership

Master & Commander costs its creators over $150 million. Unfortunatly, holiday timing pits it against titles such as Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat, Elf & The Haunted Mansion. So far, M+C has grossed lass than $70 million. Not to mention that The Last Samurai, Something's Gotta Give and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King are all released within the next two weeks.If you expect to see big budget M+C sequels...

New Hornblower episodes on A&E Dec 2 and 3. Watched the first on last night and loved it. Yes there's not as much sailing but I love watching Hornblower figure out what he's going to do next. Bush is great-kicking "a" and taking names. Great fun for an old fan.Markdb

A&E Hornblower pretty lame

The diaglogue was so corny that I was embarrassed for the actors. And the cannon accuracy was amazing! Luke Skywalker would have been envious.M&C was wonderful, I've been a Patrick O'Brien fan since reading "Desolation Island" one weekend while hunkered down to wait out a Block Island Sound gale in New Harbor.
